He has many academic qualifications all from the University of Sydney including a PhD in medicine. He is a: lecturer in bioethics and medical education; medical researcher; health services scientist and an ssociate at the NSW Ministry of Health in Domestic and Family Violence Services Management. He represents His father Ayatollah Al-Ansari (representative of Ayatollah Sistani in Australia and New Zealand) in the Religious Leaders Forum in Australia occupying the Shia Islam seat and other than speakung and being the secretary of The Shia Islamic Assembly Australia, he is also a member of the Islamic Reference Group advising the Australian Prime Minister. Dr Basim is also a visiting Academic at the Faculty of Medicine, the University of Kufa and a consultant of the Teaching Hospitals Board at Najaf Province, Iraq.
